  1. Journal entries using excerpts from Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl

  2. Journal Entry 1 • I wonder whether you can tell me why it is that people always try so hard to hide their real feelings?

  3. Question 2 • Could the same thing that happened to Anne's family happen in our world today? • Explain why or why not.

  4. MARCH 27, 1944 • The radio is switched on every morning at eight (if not earlier) and is listened to every hour until nine, ten or even eleven at night.

  5. We’re so fortunate here, away from the turmoil. We wouldn’t have to give a moment’s thought to all this suffering if it weren’t for the fact that we’re so worried about those we hold dear, whom we can no longer help. I feel wicked sleeping in a warm bed, while somewhere out there my dearest friends are dropping from exhaustion or being knocked to the ground. (11/19/1942)

  6. Question 3 Anne often mentioned that she was actually fortunate to be in hiding. What positive things came from being in hiding?

  7. Just imagine, it's still fairly cold, and yet most people have been without coal for nearly a month. March 31, 1944

  8. Journal Entry 4 • Little children such as Anne “must never, under any circumstances, know better than the grownups, however many blunders they make, and to whatever extent they allow their imaginations to run away with them.” ( from The Diary of Anne Frank 1/28/44) • Explain this quote and its meaning in relation to the Van Daans.

  9. JournalEntry 5 • The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside , somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature, and God. . . . I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles. (2/23/44) • Examine Anne’s feelings in this quote in a 500 word essay.

  10. Journal Entry 9 • I don't want followers, but friends, admirers who fall not for a flattering smile but for what one does and for one's character. (3/7/44) • How does Anne’s relationship with Peter reflect these feelings expressed in Anne’s diary?
