  2. Today’s Session… • Look over the test: what were the answers and where did you do best? • Peer marking of questions 3, 8 and 9: do you know what you are looking for when marking a test? • Begin to look at the 6 components of Skill-related fitness- what is A.B.C- P.R.S?

  3. The Test… Q.1: Healthy Active Lifestyle? • A Lifestyle that contributes positively to physical, mental and social wellbeing that includes regular exercise and physical activity. Q.2: 3 main categories of BENEFITS for taking part in Physical Activity? • Physical. • Mental. • Social.

Q.4: 3 out of the 6 categories of influence on sports participation? • People- Family, Peers, Role Models. • Image- Fashion and Media. • Cultural Factors- Disability, Age, Gender, Race. • Resources- Availability, location, Access and Time. • Health and Wellbeing- Illness and Health Problems. • Socio-economic- Cost and Status.

  5. Q.6: Label the Pyramid… Q.7: At what stage do the activities take place? • Performance/Elite. • Foundation. • Participation. • Participation.

  6. Peer Marking… • Take a look at Question 3. • Do you know what you should be looking at? How do you actually answer this question? • In pencil mark the question out of 9- be critical don’t just give marks to your friends!

  7. Badminton Questions: • Do the same with the badminton questions: try and mark them first without asking for help. • Be critical- don’t mark what’s not there!

  9. Skill-related fitness… • This allows people to become good at physical activity. • Different sports require different combinations of Skill-related fitness.

  10. REMEMBER…

  11. Agility… • The ability to change the position of the whole body quickly and control the movement of the whole body… • Example? • Sidestep in Rugby • Floor work in gymnastics.

  12. Exam Question: • Explain the term agility (1) • Give a specific example of when a games play would use agility in a match (1) • Explain why agility is not important to a 100m sprinter (1)

  13. Static Balance. Keeping the body stationary i.e. the tree position in yoga. Archery requires this too! Dynamic Balance. A Controlled, stable position i.e. a basketball player. Balance… Gymnastics… This requires both dynamic and static balance i.e. a handstand into a forward walk-over.

  14. Practical Example… • Think of one of your chosen practical sports… • Explain how you use static balance in your sport (1) • Explain how dynamic balance is also used (1)

  15. There are many different types of co-ordination… can you name them? Hand-eye. Foot-eye. Head-eye. Thigh-eye/Chest eye. Fact: many people are co-ordinated differently on different sides of their body. Stuart Broad: England Cricketer. Bats left handed. Bowls right handed. Co-ordination…

  16. Power… • Speed x Strength= Power. • Sportsmen and women use power to propel themselves or an object forward or upwards. • Football: Long throw • Weightlifting: Clean and Jerk. • Athletics: Long or High Jump.

  17. Reaction Time… “The B of the Bang” Definition: The time taken between the presentation of a stimulus and the onset of movement… • Basically, how quickly you can react to something. • Anticipation of a stimulus can also help reaction timing. • Slaps…

  18. Exam Question… • Give an example of how fast reaction times are beneficial in your sport (2) • Answers?

  19. Definition: the differing rates at which an individual can perform a movement or cover a distance. Speed… • Leg speed- Usain Bolt: 100m • Hand Speed- David Haye: Boxing • Speed of thought- Rafael Nadal: Tennis

  20. Exam Question: • How can speed be improved in your sport? (1) • What other area of Skill-related fitness can be influenced by a poor level of speed? (1)

  21. Review: • AGILITY • BALANCE • CO-ORDINATION • POWER • REACTION TIME • SPEED H/W: Find 3 examples of Fitness tests that can test these aspects of fitness.
