Realistic Constraints, Engineering Standards and Modern Engineering Tools for Senior Design Project:RoScoE:Ambassador Assisting Robot for Armstrong Hall Senior Project Presentation Mike DiMeo Andrew Specian Advisor: Dr. Wang
Our goal is to design a robotic solution that will capture guests and prospective students with engaging demonstration Project Overview
Safety! • Multimedia interaction • Arms used for body language • Facial expressions • Speech output • Custom body for aesthetic purposes • Powered mobile with safety sensors • Real time senior project poster display • Expandable Design Requirements and Features
Robot Safety: • OSHA[1]- Robotics • Awareness Barrier Device • Presence Sensing Devices • Emergency Braking • Audible/Visual Warning • Controls that initiate power or motion are constructed and guarded against accidental operation. Standards
Economic: • Budget Limit • Saving over 2000$ by reusing existing parts from conducting robot projects • Environmental • Reusing material from previous project (conducting robot base) • Frame well designed – no excess metal • Aluminum – recyclable • Sustainability • Designing robot to be robust and expandable • Code will be able to be improved upon • Room in frame to allow for upgrades Constraints
Manufacturability / Constructability • Constructed of aluminum, which has great machinability • Joined via TIG welding/bolts • Adhesives used for foam skin (exterior) • Ethical (and legal) • Safety is a design priority • Programmed to not harm humans • Health and Safety • Ultrasonic position sensors to prevent collision impact • Kill switch • Insulated Electronic System • Social • Responsibly represent the School of Engineering though our project via its ability to interact and appearance. Constraints
ANSYS • SolidWorks • 3D Printer • Arm components • TCNJ Machine Shop • Arm components • Welding frame Modern Engineering Tools
Arm Materials • Weight/Strength • Perform basic engineering analysis • Use CAD to confirm design • Two General Design Approaches • Short with single monitor for display • Tall with dual separate facial and media display • Poll the SOE via Qualtrics Design Decisions
