  9. Enlightenment Philosophers ideas • There were many philosophers in Europe that were writing books about Government and equality. Here are some of there ideas: • Equal rights: The belief that all persons, regardless of sex, race, ethnicity, age, etc., have the same rights as everyone else. • Consent of the governed:The political theory that governments gain their authority from their people. A government is not valid if the people do not give their consent. • Social Contract: the idea that people give up some of their rights to protect the common good. • Separation of Powers: the principle of dividing the powers of a government among different branches to guard against abuse of authority.

Colonists helped Britain defeat French and N.Amin war • Cause: Land/territory • Impact: Britain needed money to pay for war expenses and Taxed colonists • Proclamation of 1763- • Date: 1763 • What was it?: Boundary/ border line • Cause: French and Indian War • Impact: This prohibited the colonists from settling beyond the Appalachian Mountains.

  13. Boston Massacre 1770 • Date: 1770 • What was it? The colonists and British soldiers had a gun fight in Boston. • Cause: “No taxation without representation” • Impact: *This event was an example of British cruelty toward the colonists.

Tea Act- Boston Tea Party- 1773 Tea Act: • What was it?:King insisted the colonists only by Tea from the British East India Tea company with high prices • Cause: to help the failing company get more $ • Boston Tea Party • What is it: A group of colonists disguised as Indians dumped tea overboard from ships in Boston Harbor. • Cause: Tea Act
