PRECIPITATION Presented by Julius Lee Harrison Roque Davin Cu Nico Reyes
What is precipitation? • It is an insoluble compound either reacting two salts or changing the temperature to affect the solubility of the compound. • The name given to the solid that is formed as a result of a precipitation reaction. • In chemistry, a precipitate is a substance that forms out of another substance - usually a solid that precipitates out of a liquid
How to form a PRECIPITATION • It forms when an insoluble compound in a solution that contains a particular cation (a positively charged ion) and it is mixed with another solution containing a particular anion (a negatively charged ion). The solid that separates is called a precipitate.
What is Calcium hydroxide • Ca(OH)2 - chemical formula • Slake lime - other name • colorless crystal or white powder. • It is prepared by reacting calcium oxide (lime) with water, a process called slaking, and is also known as hydrated lime or slaked lime.
Uses of calcium hydroxide • Leather tanning industry-it removes • animal hair from hides • Petroleum industry –used as additive • Rubber and plastic industry –used as • additive and filler • Chemical and food industry –pH- • regulating agent
