ShemaYom Kippur 5775 In pursuit of a fully integrated Scripture. Seeking to walk in the footsteps of the Messiah.
Candle Lighting • Blessed are You, Oh Lord, our God, King of the universe, Who has made us holy with His commands, and commanded us to light the Shabbos candle and the Yom Kippur candle. • Blessed are You, Oh Lord, our God, King of the universe, for keeping us alive, taking care of us, and bringing us to this time.
Here I Am To Worship • Light of the world • You stepped down into darkness • Opened my eyes, let me see • Beauty that made this heart adore you • Hope of a life spent with you
And here I am to worship, Here I am to bow down • Here I am to say that You’re my God • You’re altogether lovely, altogether worship, • Altogether wonderful to me
King of all days, oh, so highly exalted • Glorious in heaven above • Humbly you came to the earth you created • All for love’s sake became poor
And here I am to worship, Here I am to bow down • Here I am to say that You’re my God • You’re altogether lovely, altogether worship, • Altogether wonderful to me
I’ll never know how much it cost • to see my sin upon that cross • I’ll never know how much it cost • to see my sin upon that cross • And I’ll never know how much it cost • to see my sin upon that cross
And here I am to worship, Here I am to bow down • Here I am to say that You’re my God • You’re altogether lovely, altogether worship, • Altogether wonderful, wonderful, wonderful • Yes, You are God!
I’ll never know how much it cost • to see my sin upon that cross • I’ll never know how much it cost • to see my sin upon that cross
How Great Is Our God • The splendor of a King • clothed in majesty • Let all the earth rejoice • all the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light • And darkness tries to hide • And trembles at His voice • Trembles at His voice
How great is our God — sing with me • How great is our God — and all will see • How great, How great is our God!
Age to age He stands • And time is in His hands • Beginning and the end • Beginning and the end
The Godhead three in one • Father, Spirit, Son • Lion and the lamb • Lion and the lamb
How great is our God — sing with me • How great is our God — and all will see • How great, How great is our God!
Name above all names • Worthy of all praise • My heart will sing • How great is our God (repeat)
How great is our God — sing with me • How great is our God — and all will see • How great, How great is our God! (3X)
Grace Like Rain • Amazing grace how sweet the sound • That saved a wretch like me • And I once was lost but now I’m found • Was blind but now I see so clearly
Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me • Hallelujah, all my sins are washed away • They're washed away
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear • And grace my fears relieved • How precious did that grace appear • The hour I first believed
And hallelujah, grace like rains falls down on me • And hallelujah, all my sins are washed away, they’re washed away
When we’ve been there ten thousand years • Bright shining as the sun • We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise • Than when we’d first begun
And hallelujah, grace like rains falls down on me • And hallelujah, all my sins are washed away, they’re washed away (repeat) • Hallelujah • Hallelujah • Hallelujah • And hallelujah, grace like rains falls down on me • And hallelujah, all my sins are washed away, they’re washed away
How He Loves • He is jealous for me, • Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree, • Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy. • When all of a sudden, • I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory • And I realize just how beautiful You are • And how great Your affections are for me
(Chorus) And oh, how He loves us, oh • Oh, how He loves us • How He loves us all
He is jealous for me, • Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree, • Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy. • When all of a sudden, • I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory, • And I realize just how beautiful You are, • And how great Your affections are for me
And oh, how He loves us, oh • Oh, how He loves us, • How He loves us all • Yeah, He loves us • Oh, how He loves us • Oh, how He loves us • Oh, how He loves
And we are His portion and He is our prize, • Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes, • If his grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking. • And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss, • And my heart turns violently inside of my chest, • I don’t have time to maintain these regrets, • When I think about the way . . . .
He loves us, • Oh, how He loves us, • Oh, how He loves us, • Oh, how He loves. • Yeah, He loves us, • Oh, how He loves us, • Oh, how He loves us, • Oh, how He loves
Yeah, He loves us • Oh, how He loves us • Oh, how He loves us • Oh, how He loves us . . .
Kadosh • Kadosh, kadosh, kadosh • Kadosh, kadosh, kadosh • Adonai Elohim tz’va’ot • Adonai Elohim tz’va’ot
Holy, holy holy • Holy, holy, holy • O Lord our God Lord of hosts • O Lord our God Lord of hosts
Who was, and who is, and who is to come • Who was, and who is, and who is to come
Asher hayah • V’hoveh v’yavo • Asher hayah • V’hoveh v’yavo
Who was, and who is, and who is to come • Who was, and who is, and who is to come
Shema • (Face the Ark) Shema Israel, Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad. Baruch shem k’vod malchuto l’olam va’ed
Shema (English) • (Open the Ark) Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is One! Blessed be the name of His glorious kingdom, forever and ever. Amein.
(Torah is removed from the Ark) Gadlu l’Adonai iti, unrom’mah Sh’mo yachdav! • Extol the Lord with me and together let us exalt His holy name! (Procession of the Ark)
Kol Nidre • Light is planted for the righteous people, and for the people who are pure in their hearts—happiness. With Adonai’s approval, and with the congregation’s approval; in the Court in Heaven, and in the Court on Earth, we are giving permission to pray with sinners.
Repeat 3 Times • All the different types of vows or restrictions that we took upon ourselves from the Yom Kippur of last year until this Yom Kippur, and from this Yom Kippur until next Yom Kippur, are hereby canceled and have no power. Our vows shall not be considered vows, our restrictions shall not be considered restrictions, and our oaths shall not be considered oaths.
May the entire nation of Israel, and also those who have joined the Jewish people, be forgiven for their sins, for it is as if they have been committed unintentionally. • Please forgive the sins of your people, because You are filled with kindness, and like You have forgiven Your people from the time they were taken out of Egypt until today. • And there (after they left Egypt and sinned) it says: • (Repeat 3 Times) And Adonai said, “I have forgiven just as you have said.”
Blessed are You, Adonai, our God, King of the universe, for keeping us alive, taking care of us, and bringing us to this time. • (congregation answers) • Amen.
Viduy—said standing without leaning, but with head and body slightly bent • Our God, and the God of our fathers, let our prayers come directly to You. Do not ignore our requests. We are not so disrespectful and stubborn to say to You, Adonai, “We are righteous, and we have not sinned.” We admit that we and our fathers have sinned. • We are guilty, and have sinned against You, Adonai. • We have betrayed Adonai, by not following His commands. • We have robbed from other people.
We have told lies, and said things to harm others. • We have made other people sin, by getting them not to follow Adonai’s way. • We have made other people do wicked things, and caused them to sin. • We have sinned on purpose, and then we tried to show that it wasn’t really a sin. • We have taken from other people, and we have taken advantage of the poor and the weak. • We have accused other people wrongly, by saying bad things about others.
We have given bad advice, by advising others to make the wrong choice. • We have misled other people, by not keeping our word. • We have made fun of other people and things, and made jokes about serious matters. • We have rebelled, against Adonai, and showed that we don’t listen to what He says. • We angered Adonai by being disrespectful to Him. • We have turned away from Adonai, and not done the commands we should have.
We have not been honest, and convinced ourselves that we were doing the right thing. • We have sinned by refusing to do certain commands, showing that we do not fully believe in Your holy Torah. • We have caused other people to suffer, and not thought about their feelings and how we hurt them. • We have been stubborn, and did not change our bad ways even when we suffered for them. • We have been evil, and not followed Your Torah. • We have ruined ourselves, and acted badly in ways that changed our nature.
We have been disgusting to you because of our sins. • We have gone away from Your path, instead of coming close to You. • You have let us go away from Your path, You gave us the freedom to choose between right and wrong. • We have turned away from You, and Your commands, and from Your beautiful laws, but it was all for nothing and no good came of it. • You are fair in everything that happens to us, because You have acted with truth, and we have done evil.
What can we say to You, You, Who are in Heaven, What can we tell You, You, Who are up High, Everything that is hidden and not hidden, You know.
Al Cheit • You know the secrets of the universe, all the hidden mysteries, of all living things. You search in all the hidden places, studying our thoughts and feelings. Nothing is hidden from You, Nothing is unseen from Your Eyes. • And so, may You choose to forgive us for all our mistakes, excuse us for all our sins that we did on purpose, atone for us for all our sins that we did rebelliously against You.
For the sin we have committed in front of You even if we were forced to do it, • We said we were forced, but we really should not have done it. • For the sin we have committed in front of You because our heart was hardened, • We were stubborn and would not admit we were wrong. • For the sin we have committed in front of You because we did not know better, • We should have studied and known better.
