  4. Traits of temptation: • The sin is made to sound good and reasonable. • The intensity of desire is played upon. • Hunger, thirst, sexual desire… • The solution is easy – the quick fix. 1st Temptation – Matthew 4:1-4

  5. V. 4 Jesus’ answer, “It is written…” • Deuteronomy 8:2-3 • How many congregations don’t preach the gospel but cater to men’s fleshly desires? • How many Christians forsake the assembly for social or recreational activities? • How often are physical desires placed before faithfulness to God? 1st Temptation – Matthew 4:1-4

  6. Satan adjusts. • V. 5-6, The Devil attempts to use Jesus’ reliance on God and His word. • When we think we have a strength, beware! (1 Corinthians 10:12) • Satan misuses Scripture. • Psalm 91:11 – this psalm is about God’s care for the righteous. • Satan is in essence saying, “Show who you are.” • V. 7 “It is written again…” – Deuteronomy 6:16 (Exodus 17:7) • We must take all of what Scripture says about a subject. • There’s a difference in falling and jumping. 2nd temptation – Matthew 4:5-7

  8. 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. The Devil tempts us in the same ways.
