  1. Expandable Paint Palette Avery L. 8 years old Mississippi, USA

  2. Step1- Think It! • If you don’t have enough room to mix the right paint colors, it makes an ugly color. If it’s the wrong color, you’ll mess up your painting, and you won’t be able to make a masterpiece. Then, you won’t be able to sell it, and you won’t get a lot of money. Also, you won’t become a famous artist.

  3. Step 2- Explore It • The SHY Winged Watercolor Palette was invented as an expandable watercolor palette, but my invention can be used for all kinds of paints.

  4. Documentation of Sources • “SHY Winged Watercolor Palette.” http://www.shysart.com/shy_winged_watercolor_palette . February 18, 2014.

  5. Step 3- Sketch It! • Draft 1

  6. Step 3- Sketch It! • Draft 2

  7. Step 4 – Create It! I bought supplies. • Two paint palettes • A glove • Hex Nuts 8-32,Wing Nuts 8-32,Finish Washers #8, Nylon Nuts 8-32, Flat Washers #8, Pan Phillips machine Screw 8-32 x 1.

  8. Step 4 – Create It! (cont’d) • I gathered tools: Screw Driver, Drill, Adjustable Wrench, Router, Saw Horses, Drill Bits. • I stacked the paint palettes on top of each other. I drilled two holes in each of them, routed a slot for the palette to slide in, and added the screws, nuts, and washers. Last, I glued a glove to the palette.

  9. STEP 5- TRY IT! When I tried the Expandable Paint Palette, it slid over and hurt my fingers. There was no comfortable way to hold the palette.

  10. STEP 6- TWEAK IT! I attached a glove to the bottom of the Expandable Paint Palette.

  11. The glove worked well and was a much more comfortable way of holding the Expandable Paint Palette. Next, I loosen the knob on the bottom on the paint palette.

  12. The Expandable Paint Palette slid open to reveal much more space for additional paint colors.

  13. Step 7-Sell It! (click on the picture to play the video.)
