OERRM • eRA which was part of the Division of Extramural Information Systems (DEIS) along with the Office of Reports and Analysis has joined to form the Office of Electronic Research and Report Management (OERRM). This Office is lead by it’s new director Dr. Israel Lederhendler. OERRM National Institutes of Health

IMPAC II Component of eRA • Project Scope: • Each Year: • 46,000 competing applications • 2,800 review meetings • 80 National Advisory Council meetings • 50,000 competing and non-competing awards • 2,600 grantee institutions worldwide • 100,000 applicants • $17 billion in awards • Each Day • Average of 2,300 users login OERRM National Institutes of Health

The Commons Component of eRA • The Commons component of eRA is a virtual meeting place where NIH extramural grantee organizations, individual grantees, and the public can receive and transmit information pertaining to the administration of biomedical and behavioral research • Commons is the externally facing component of eRA; IMPAC II is the internally facing component • 2365 Registered Organizations • 34827 Registered Persons • 27972 Registered PI’s OERRM National Institutes of Health

Commons Component of eRA • NIH introduced the Commons idea of a single point of entry for grants-related transactions • NIH very committed to working closely with the grants.gov project • NIH has successfully received approximately 60 applications in pilot electronically, through the CGAP project OERRM National Institutes of Health

  8. eRA Project Goals • Submission of grant funding synopses to the government-wide repository for grant funding opportunities (FedBizOps) • Receipt of competitive grant applications via the grants.gov web interface • December 2005 SBIR receipt date to be the first live test of grant applications submitted through grants.gov and loaded directly into the eRA database OERRM National Institutes of Health

Reporting & Analysis • OLTP used for operational time critical reporting • IRDB(IMPAC II Reporting database) is designed for querying and reporting as a decision support system (no transactions, read only) • Non-time critical reporting • Database design is denormalized • not over-encumbered with table joins • prejoined PowerView for easy access • Data built by nightly load of most data elements from OLTP • Contains historical data (1972) • By spreading workload between OLTP and IRDB databases, overall processing performance is improved • Supports analytical reporting (cross functional analysis) • Provides easy access through any tools including Crystal Reports OERRM National Institutes of Health

CRISP • CRISP is a searchable database of federally funded biomedical research projects conducted at universities, hospitals, and other research institutions • 30,000 queries per week • Users, including the public, query the CRISP interface to search for scientific concepts, emerging trends and techniques, or to identify specific projects and/or investigators OERRM National Institutes of Health
