  1. The Dilution Tunnel Team NOx Dallin Searle Angel Rivera Eric Broncheau

  2. Problem Definition • Problem Statement • The product opportunity is to provide the Small Engine Research Facility with a means of precisely diluting engine exhaust and measuring the particulate matter in that exhaust in real time. • What is a dilution tunnel?

  3. Concepts • Full Flow vs. Partial Flow • Size constraints • Accuracy • Multiple vs. Single Sample points • Representative sample to sensors • Simplicity

  4. Current Design

  5. Current Projects • The TDI that is located in the SMERF lab was not complete enough to start and do testing. • After Installing a fuel pump and a fuel cell the TDI is ready for testing. • The TDI now needs to be hooked up to water brake dyno and some basic testing needs to be done.

  6. Future Work • PVC tunnel • Simulate a dilution tunnel with readily available materials • Concept testing in ME 430 • Test of concept with tunnel with flow sensors and fans

  7. Questions
