Industry • the leading sector (20% GDP) of economy together with services and trade • more than 350 new industries: gambling, fibre optic cable manufacturing, satellite communication, computer software, environmental consulting… • raw materials and deposits: • oil and gas – Texas, Oklahoma, Gulf of Mexico, Wyoming, Alaska • coal – the Appalachian Mountains, Lake Michigan, Ohio • gold, silver, platinum, uranium, copper, sulphur – Alaska, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, N.
