The coldest temperature recorded in U.S. history is 69°F below zero! • What to Wear: (Varies depending on where you live) People will protect themselves from the cold with thick jackets, hats, gloves, and boots. • Outdoor Activities: Skiing, hockey, sledding, skating, snowball fights, and building a snowman. • Holidays: Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Muharram, (and other customs from around the world), New Year, Three King’s Day, Chinese New Year, Ground Hogs Day, Valentines Day and St. Patrick’s Day. • Fun Facts: • Winter starts on December 21 also called the Winter Solstice, this is the shortest day of the year. • Some animals will rest and hibernate until spring. • The only plants that grow and stay green are called evergreens.
