Conley Excerpt • Read the Introduction on pages 5-7. • As you read, consider how your own experience as a college freshman relates to the definition of college readiness in the reading. • Write a statement pointing out specific examples from the definition of college readiness where you feel you were adequately prepared and where you feel you were underprepared.

Failure rates in some of these courses approach 50 percent…” (p. 11). • Do you think you are having any experiences with a “weed out” course? • A popular belief in higher education is that students who do not succeed in general education courses do not “belong” in college. What is your response to this statement?
