  2. King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals College of Industrial Management (CIM) Executive Education A Proposed Management Development Program for SABIC Corporation August 30, 2005

INTRODUCTION The proposal enclosed has been developed based on the meeting with Mr. Mohammed Al Bathi (Senior Vice President for Human Resources) and his two assistants, the study of the documentation that contains SABIC competency model, and deliberation of CIM concerned committee . Primarily it targets the middle management category of SABIC management and recently promoted managers to top management positions. The program mixes the concepts with application.

Objectives of the Proposed Management Development Program  Nurturing future’s leaders.  Aligning strategy, competencies and behavior. • Disseminating knowledge and expertise throughout the organization.  Shifting the emphasis from training to learning. • Enhance performance improvement for the organization.

Roadmap of The Program Action Learning Phase Class Room Phase Preparing the mindset II Initiating change and action learning I Defining a learning project III Continuing and deepening action learning IV Analyzing, summarizing, reflecting on learning & preparing for further learning II Problem sensing and preparing for action learning III Reflecting on experience, obtaining feedback and planning improvement in action

  6. Logistics I. Prior to the launching of the program: a. Three (3) teams from the College comprises of representatives in Management, Marketing, and Finance to visit 3 – 4 SABIC Affiliates each and meet with Executives in-charge to learn more about SABIC culture and inquire more of its fourteen competencies before finalizing the relevant training materials (see Appendix A). These visits must be concluded three months prior to the start of the program. b. Once the list of participants finalized (should not exceed 25 individuals), a meeting with their immediate supervisors should take place before the start of the program. c. It is highly recommended that such program to be held in a resort area such as Jubail Intercontinental Hotel, Half-moon Holiday Inn Hotel, or Sunset Beach facility.

  7. Cont. of slide 6 – Logistics: d. Each applicant must fill-up the form in Appendix-B. II. During the implementation of the program: a. Everybody should observe his assigned role to ensure successful implementation of the program. These roles are spelled out in this presentation. b. For session 2, 3, and 4, the following Faculty are involved: Dr. Fazal Seyyed; Dr. Eid S. Al-Shammari Dr. Alhassan Abdul-Muhmin; and Dr. Mustafa Achoui Participants shall be grouped into team of 5 members, report to one of the Faculty above prior to session 3 and up to the end of the program.

  12. Schedules of Classroom Session in the Program 1. Session-1, week one, shall be in the first week of the program. 2. Session-1, week two, shall be in the second week of the program. 3. Session-2, shall be in the seventh week of the program. 4. Session-3, shall be in the twelve week of the program. 5. Session-4, shall be in the twenty fourth week of the program.

  13. Roles in the Management Development Program The role of the Senior Vice President for Human Resources (Mr. Mohammed Al Bathi): • Generates commitment.  Facilitates tasks.  Monitors and evaluates.

  14. Roles in the Management Development Program The role of the Immediate Manager: • Helps participants identify the problem. • Helps participants focus on important issues. • Guide and counsel participants. • Observes and evaluates.  Transfers learning to the organization.

The Topical Coverage of SABIC Competencies • Category 1: Thought:(Contains four competencies in SABIC Competency Model) • Corporate transformation in era of globalization. • Developing a new vision and effective planning. • Financial tools and ratio analysis. • Category 2: Results:(Contains four competencies in SABIC Competency Model) • Executive and operational excellence via quality tools. • Developing appropriate culture. • Market-driven organization in a global industry. • Category 3: People: (Contains four competencies in SABIC Competency Model) • Developing people via coaching, counseling, and teamwork. • Effective framework for corporate communication. • Steps in effective planning. • Category 4: Personal: (Contains two competencies in SABIC Competency Model) • a. The role of leadership in modern organization.

  18. Cost of the Program • The program cost SR700,000.00. This includes the course materials, faculty fees, luncheon, team visits, and certificates. The accommodation of the participants are not included.
