How to Read a Degree Evaluation Program Enrolled in. **Double check that your degree evaluation lists the major you have declared.** Specific actions to take to complete the general requirement. Area: Designates a requirement. Met: Indicates whether or not the requirement has been met. Indicates that both actions must be taken to complete the requirement. You may see an “or” option for other requirements.
Degree Evaluation Components General USP Requirement To meet this requirement you must fulfill the QA and QB requirement. Specific Math and Quant USP Requirements of QA and QB
Reading the Degree Evaluation Subjects needed to complete the requirement Specific Course numbers needed to complete the requirement Met Condition If the requirement has been met, you will see the word YES under the MET heading and next to the course/requirement. You will then see the course that met the requirement on the right side of your evaluation. If the requirement hasn’t been met, you will see the word NO under the MET heading and next to the course/requirement. You will then see the course needed to fulfill the requirement listed on the left side of your evaluation.
Caution • Some majors will have a GPA requirement. When the degree evaluation calculates your GPA, it will most often include your transfer GPA. The GPA needed for graduation or to meet specific requirement is a UW only GPA and cannot include your Transfer GPA. Please calculate your GPA based only on courses you took through the University of Wyoming. UW GPA: Calculate using only courses taken through the University of Wyoming.
Literacy (L) USP • If you transfer in 16 credit hours, post high school, you may take the TIP exam, score a 70%, and then petition to have this USP requirement met. • For information about the TIP exam visit: www.uwyo.edu/unst/student-advising-information/transfer-information/satisfying-the-l/
Intellectual Community (I) USP • If you transfer in 16 credit hours, post high school, this requirement will be met. • Information on the Intellectual Community (I) USP can be found at: www.uwyo.edu/unst/usp-2003/i-requirement/index.html
Tips for Degree Completion • One course may satisfy more than one requirement. • Ie: ME 3360 is an upper division course that will fulfill a major requirement for the Mechanical Engineering Major, as well as, count for credit hours to be applied towards the requirement of 48.0 upper division credit hours. • When you have the option to complete an Upper or Lower division course, try to take the upper division course to fulfill the requirement of 48.0 upper division credit hours. • A UW GPA of 2.0 is required for graduation. Take note, the college you are obtaining your degree through may have a different GPA requirement. • Double check to make sure all classes you have taken at both your previous institution and the University of Wyoming are listed on your Degree Evaluation.
What-If Analysis What if you want to consider a change of major? • What-If Analysis helps you explore alternate majors using a degree evaluation to view the requirements remaining to complete a degree in the new major. • What-If Analysis also helps you to view how the courses you have already completed may meet the requirements of a different major.
How to perform a What-If Analysis • While viewing the degree evaluation for your current major, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the What-If Analysis Hyperlink.
Select a Term Select the year you transferred to or began taking courses at the University of Wyoming. Then, select continue.
Select a New Program Locate the program you are considering. Then, select continue.
Select a Major Select the campus you will be attending. Select the major you are considering. Select Submit.
Select an Evaluation Term Select the term when your new program/major would begin. Select Generate Request.
Select Detail Requirements Select Detail Requirements, then Submit.
Review the What-If Analysis • A new degree evaluation will be generated, which will include the requirements to be met in order to obtain a degree in your change of major. • Before changing your major, contact your advisor or the Center for Advising and Career Services to discuss the options for changing a major.
