  1. Sources of Energy Energy Crisis HOW LONG WILL CONVENTIONAL SOURCES OF ENERGY LAST The amount of energy consumed by a country depends upon the life-style of its people and its level of industrialisation. For example, the combined population of United States of America and the erstwhile Soviet Union is about 10% of the world population. But, these countries produce and consume about 50% of the total energy produced in the whole world.

  2. Sources of Energy Energy Crisis HOW LONG WILL CONVENTIONAL SOURCES OF ENERGY LAST On the other hand, the population of India is about 16% of the world population and it produces and consumes only about 2% of the total energy produced in the whole world. If this trend of energy consumption is continued, very soon all the known conventional sources of energy will get exhausted and we will face an energy crisis.

  3. Sources of Energy Energy Crisis What is meant by energy crisis With the development of technology, our consumption of concentrated sources of energy, like coal, petroleum, natural gas and uranium, has increased. These fuels are formed by very slow physical and chemical processes. Fast depletion of the non-renewable concentrated sources of energy (fuels) is known as energy crisis.

  4. Sources of Energy Energy Crisis What are the factors causing energy crisis The following factors lead to energy crisis: • Increasing population • Excessive use of non-renewable (conventional) sources • of energy • Use of less fuel-efficient machines • Affluent life-style of the people

  5. Sources of Energy Energy Crisis How can the energy crisis be prevented To prevent energy crisis we should • Slow down the use of conventional fuels. • Use renewable sources of energy like wind energy, solar energy, hydro-energy, geothermal energy and biomass energy. • Use more fuel-efficient machines and electrical appliances. • Save energy whenever and wherever possible. For example, we can use tube lights or compact fluorescent tubes (CFT) in place of electric bulbs and switch off lights and other electrical appliances when not needed.
