What is literary theory? • Literary theory is the twinning of ideas and approaches that we as readers use to come up with a constructive meaning of the text and how it ties in and fit into the real world and its scenarios.
Examples of literary theory • Archetypal Criticism- how the narrative designs character types or images in the text. (i.e. myths, dreams, and social behavior)
What is the purpose of literary theory? • The purpose of literary theories are to give readers a deeper comprehension of the text they are trying to understand, by giving the audience different “lenses” to view the text from.
Everything that glitters isn’t gold.! • This theory can tie into any secular setting/story ,because with every story there is the good, the bad, and the ugly. A person may seem like the most wonderful samaritan on the outside, but on the inside they could have the worst personality, attitude, and behavior ever, this is considered a façade. A façade is a front that many people put up just because they don’t want people to know how they are on the inside and they focus so much on their outer appearance that their insides become pulstular, causing them to rotten on the inside but enticing on the out. Which is another word for gilded, and everything that glitters isn’t gold.
Gilded characters • Daisy • Gatsby • Janie
