  3. Literacy Objectives: • To understand what is meant by the term ‘prefix’; • To recognise and spell the prefixes: - un and dis.

  4. What Are Prefixes? • A prefixis a group of letters we add to the front of a word. • Prefixes change the meaning or purposeof the word, e.g. un+ kind =unkind How has the word meaning been altered? The word has become its opposite meaning (antonym)

  5. Affix • An affix is a group of letters that come before or after the root word. • An affix is either a prefix or a suffix.

  6. Suffix • A suffixis a group of letters we add to the back of a word. • A Suffix will change the meaning or purposeof the root word.

  7. The prefix ‘un’ • My mom was unwell this weekend with a bad cold.

  8. The prefix ‘un’ • Jerry seemed unhappy that the cat was by his hole.

  9. The prefix ‘dis’ • Sally disagreed with Tom over who threw the snowball. How has the word meaning been altered with this prefix? agree-----disagree Again the word has become an antonym (opposite) of the root word.
