  5. Why should the CTC system collect this additional information? LGBT people in general are an at-risk group: These challenges follow LGBT students throughout their educational careers (“Safe at School”, “Campus Climate”, “Access and Equity”)

  6. Concerns? Like other demographic information, reporting this information would be voluntary, leaving it to the discretion of students whether or not they feel it is safe or necessary to identify themselves to the institution as LGBT.

  7. Conclusion: • Targeted support services for LGBT are necessary, not optional. • Without support, students pay the price with their emotional and physical safety. • College administrations need data about LGBT students in order to have an informed discussion of the needs of their LGBT students. • The State needs to be held accountable for its commitment to provide equal access to education to all people.
