Welcome to Mrs. Alba’s Class Guidelines and Procedures
Where am I supposed to sit? You should have found your name on one of the sheets on a desk.This will be your seat for the semester.
Will Mrs. Alba treat me fairly? Yes, always!
What will I be learning this year? • Problem Solving Skills • Where do we see math in the real world • Patterns • Measurement
How will I be graded? • Daily work and warm-up quizzes – 40% • Projects/Cooperative Based Assignments - 60% (You will be given rubrics so that everyone is held accountable)

Guideline Number One Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned “Warm-Up” when the tardy bell rings.
Tuesday, January 4, 2010 Do Now: Look for your name on one of the surveys on the desks. This will be your seat for today. Sit down and begin filling out the survey. Objective: TSW get acquainted with the guidelines and procedures of Mrs. Alba’s class. Agenda: • Student Survey • Go over guidelines and procedures • Word of the Week (if time permits)
Guideline Number Two Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave.
Guideline Number Three Follow directions the first time they are given.
Guideline Number Four Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.
Guideline Number Five Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the Timberwood and Humble ISD handbooks.
Behavior Log • If you break one of my guidelines, it will be recorded in your behavior log and the appropriate consequence will be given.
Following the Guidelines will result in: • Verbal Acknowledgement • A Stress free learning environment • A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere
Entering the room • Please enter quietly • Have a seat • Take out your materials • Review the agenda • Begin the “Warm-Up”
When you are tardy • Enter silently. • Excused: Place excuse on my cart. • Unexcused: Go to the sweep room. • Have a seat and take out your materials.
Getting your attention I will: • Stand in front of the class • Look at you with “my look” • Wait for everyone to be quiet • Begin speaking
Paper Heading • You must put your name on ALL assignments at the TOP RIGHT side of the paper.
After an absence • Go to the work bin on the cart and get all handouts from the day that you were absent either before class or after class (Purple Folders). • Make sure you get with your group to see what you missed and what they need you to do to get caught up. • You have one week from your return to get all of your work to me.
“What do I do next?” activities • Work on a puzzle from the cart (Blue Folder). • Work on your homework from your other math class. • You may not put your head down or work on any other work!
Turning in papers • When you have completed your assignments, quietly place your paper on the upper right hand corner of your desk. • When I ask you to turn them in, pass your papers to the right. • When/If you receive a paper, place yours on top of the stack and continue passing them to the right. • I will come by and collect all stacks of paper.
Classroom Discussions • PLEASE participate • I want to hear what you have to say • Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion • If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.
Getting up from your desk • You MUST ask permission • Do not ask during a class discussion or lecture unless it is an emergency. • Keep all trash at your desk until the end of class. • You may only sharpen pencils before class or with my permission.
Class Dismissal • The teacher dismisses you, NOT the bell! • Do not start packing prior to the bell. • Wait until the teacher dismisses you with, “Have a nice day!”
Special Procedures These will be introduced on an as needed basis • Group Assignments • Fire Drills • Intercom announcement • Assemblies • Substitute Teachers • Progress Reports • Report Cards
