Why protect my eyes? • Eye pain is severe and can affect the rest of your life. • What would you do if suddenly you could not see? • How would vision loss change your life from this point forward?
Protection from arc burn • Welding curtain • Cutting goggles • Proper welding helmet with 10-15 shade appropriate for amperage rating • Do not look at the arc • Have a call system in the lab before striking an arc.
Preventing chemical burns • Safety goggles in combination with a full face shield. • Wear proper gloves and wash hands before contacting eyes or other mucus membranes
Infection prevention • Wash hands after visiting restroom, contact with animals/livestock, working in soil or with anything from the lab. • Don’t poot on someone elses pillow (pink eye)
Foreign material • Most common:Dust, metal, wood chips • Other: nails, staples, wire, other objects launched by striking
