Matthew 6:9-139 “This, then, is how you should pray:“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread.
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
1. Structure is similar to other Jewish prayers2. “Abba” was not a way that Jewish people began their prayers
4. The use of “debts & debtors” rather than “trespasses” (hoba)
5. 1st Century Christians were encouraged to pray it 3x a day
You can’t really know what you are praying unless you enter into discipleship
“Abba” reveals an intimate personal relationship of Jesus to God.
“the one who forgives, and knows how to give good gifts to his children...”
Isaiah 64:8Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
It is only when God is given his proper place that all other things fall into place.
Deuteronomy 32:6Is this the way you repay the LORD, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?
1. Being “right” with others - forgiving, acceptance2. Ability to lead a self less life.
