Prepositions. A word that shows the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and another word in the sentence. It is a word of “position”. Your math book is underneath the apple. The preposition underneath shows the relationship of book to apple. What is the relationship?.

  1. Prepositions A word that shows the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and another word in the sentence.

  2. It is a word of “position”. • Your math book is underneath the apple. • The preposition underneath shows the relationship of book to apple.

  4. Changing Prepositions • I hit the ball over the net. • I hit the ball into the net. • I hit the ball under the net. • I hit the ball against the net. • I hit the ball across the net.

  6. The Prepositional Phrase • A preposition always has at least one noun or pronoun as an object. • EXAMPLEThe pile of dry leaves had grown much larger.

  8. Prepositional Phrase • Starts with a preposition. • Ends with a noun or pronoun. • Includes adjectives which describe the noun or pronoun.

  9. for dogs and cats • This flea collar is for dogs and cats.

  10. near the airport • They live near the airport.

  11. Prepositions are green. • Underline prepositions green. • Draw a green arrow to object of preposition.
