Background of the Project • MOU Agreement for ProjectOn November 29th 2010, the Council entered into a dedicated partnership with Korean government to carry out a joint project on “Water and Green Growth” • Project Period: November 2010 – March 2015 • Objective: Developing and promoting a framework clarifying the role and importance of Water and Green Growth • Budget for Phase I (until Dec. 2011): 800,000 euro

Water and Green Growth (WGG) - Logical Framework • Define the meaning of ‘Water and Green Growth’ and prepare a series of case studies to evalute the role of Water in GG • Develop a general framework including tools and methods to support the implement. of WGG • Promote and communicate with the results of the Phase 1 in the 6WWF & other int’l meetings [Rio+20] to insure that WATER features a high prority on the int’l agenda of GG • Develop innovative solutions for water related issues based on the results of the Phase 1 & 2 Nov 2010 ~ Dec 2011 Jan 2012 ~ Dec 2012 Jan 2013 ~ Mar 2015

Water and Green Growth (WGG) - Steering Committee (SC) • Role of the Steering Committee • Provides their views to the IT on the issues addressed by the project, especially on the political priorities • Advise and recommend on progress reports on key issues • Review the final report and take responsibility for the communication strategy to make sure that the output of the joint project corresponds to the goals fixed by the MOU

Stakeholder Engagement Activities • World Water Day Side Event with UNHABITAT (Cape Town), 20-22 March 2011 • -> to set out the project plan & initiate a debate on the • role that water plays in GG from a variety perspective • -> formal launching of WGG website • (www.waterandgreengrowth.org) • Side Event at 2nd Istanbul Int’l Water Forum, 3-5 May 2011 • -> demonstrated various ways that water can be • used to foster GG • -> infrastructure investment, tech. innovation, funding • mechanism for ecosystem services, water pricing etc. • ‘WGG; Examining the Links’ Seminar at the Stockholm WWW Conference, 21-27 Aug. 2011 - round table dialogues with Core Group for Thematic Priority 2.4 ‘Promote GG & Value ecosystem Service’ for 6WWF

Steering Committee Meetings • 1st Meeting on 20 March 201 • - following the public launch of the Project in Cape Town • 2nd Meeting in May 2011 • - in advance of the side event in Istanbul • 3rd Meeting on 11 May 2011 in Marseille • - in the same week as the 42nd BoG meeting • Next SC Meeting in Korea on 27-28 July 2011 • - to review the work to date & map out in more detail the • steps necessary in the lead up to the 6WWF • Call for Peer Reviewers for background research • - on the interim report currently being written by K-water • - requested to suggest suitable reviewers with knowledge • of WGG issues or to volunteer their service to review • - Draft interim Report by the end of June 2011

Water and Green Growth (WGG) - Case Study • Development of TOR for the Case Studies • - to facilitate the analysis and have identified • some initial case studies • - governors’ contribution by identifying case • studies related to their organizations • - case studies be prepared according to the TOR which will be available on the project website • (www.waterandgreengrowth.org)
