Summary
3. 3 Goals and Contributions Establish a framework for model-based design of embedded systems
Defined embedded systems design as a systems modeling problem
Address the model continuity problem
Developed a process which transforms design models into mixed HW/SW implementations – model compilation
Develop a new testing approach
4. 4 Traditional Design Immediate partitioning into HW and SW.
Hardware and software threads are pursued separately.
Emphasis is stronger on hardware than software.
Belief that HW and SW components can be developed separately; that inadequacies in HW can be compensated SW revisions.
5. 5 Codesign Hardware/Software Codesign refers to a simultaneous consideration of hardware and software aspects in the design of computing systems
Model-based approach provides for early system assessment through executable, implementation independent, models
Addresses the inability to evolve system level models gradually into efficient hardware/software implementations – (model continuity problem)
