  5. A German Debate in 2006/2007 The problem: current calculations identify a 30%-shortage of teaching capacities (25% for BA/MA-programs + 3-5% for doctoral programs). „solutions“: • Increase and/or expansion of the teaching load • virtual teaching capacity by e-Learning • other task distribution for the existing personnel • additional scientific and administrative personnel • ca. 8000 scientists are to be appointed prematurely to chairs • Senior-Professorship (shift of the pensionable age up to 70) • teaching(junior)professorship • part time staff from industria Dr. Claudia Kleinwächter – women academics – Kassel – 7 december 2007

  6. Teaching(junior)Professorship Dr. Claudia Kleinwächter – women academics – Kassel – 7 december 2007

  7. Criticism of the GEW • The GEW expresses itself against a separation from research and teachings in the activities of the scientific personnel.  Instead of two different personnel categories the GEW recommends that in the process of an professional life as a „scientific worker“ different fields of activity (research, teachings, management duties) can alternate each other. • As long as research has a very much higher value in relation to the teachings a depreciation of scientific work is to be feared. First recruitment advertising show a clearly lowered remuneration for so-called lecturers. • One does not have to be prophet, in order to foresee that a position as „lecturer“ or teaching(junior)professor is unattractive enough, in order to be reserved women.
