  1. Evangelism Training 1 Cecil Ang 14 July 2013

  2. What is Evangelism? • To evangelize means to announce or proclaim or bring good news. “To evangelize is to present Christ Jesus to sinful men in order that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, they may come to put their trust in God through Him.” J. I. Packer

  3. Why the need to evangelise? “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Lk 19:10 NIV “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.’” Mk 16:15 NIV “Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” Jn 4:35 NIV

  4. “It takes all kinds of churches to reach all kinds of people.” Rick Warren

  5. BC is a unique church A church of 7000 strong. A STRENGTH to the believers and an ATTRACTION to the pre-believers. Called to be the LARGEST church. Called to be a MISSION church. Called to be a house of PRAYER. Called to be a house of DIVINE HEALING. It is normal to be abnormal. If it is to be, it’s up to me. It will be an end-time Great Commission “Ark” CHURCH with MIGHTY MIRACLES, SIGNS and WONDERS producing a mind-boggling HARVEST.

  6. Who can we evangelise? Friends: those we know personally Relatives: connected by blood or marriage Associates: work colleagues Neighbours: those living in our estate Strangers: people we may not know

  7. Being People-Centric 19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. 1 Cor 9:19-23 NIV

  8. How do we witness? Words “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” Rom 1:16 NKJ Works “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matt 5:16 NKJ

  9. Witnesses and Evangelists But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Ac 1:8 NIV So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up … Eph 4:11-12 NIV

  10. God is the builder of His church “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Matt 16:18 NIV “…. the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Ac 2:47b NIV

  11. God is the builder of His church “…. no one can come to Me unless the Father has enabled them.” Jn 6:65 NIV “The Lord opened her (Lydia) heart to respond to Paul’s message.” Ac 16:14b NIV

  12. God is the builder of His church “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” 1 Cor 3:6 NIV “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.” Jn 16:8 NKJ

  13. God uses ordinary people to build His church Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matt 28:18-20 NIV

  14. God uses ordinary people to build His church • Going: this has to do with outreach either collectively or thru personal evangelism • Baptizing: incorporating new believers in the body life ministry of the church • Teaching: importance of follow-up work

  15. Going “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did. Do you think he might be the Christ?” Jn 4:29 NCV “But Jesus would not let him. He said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.” Mk 5:19 NCV

  16. Going High Expectations: The Remarkable Secret for Keeping People in your church by Thom Rainer

  17. Going

  18. God uses ordinary people to build His church “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Cor 4:7 NIV

  19. What happens if we don’t go? But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? Rom 10:14 NLT When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. Eze 3:18 NIV

  20. What should we expect? From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Jn 6:66 NKJ And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, “We will hear you again on this matter.” So Paul departed from among them. However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.” Ac 17:32-34 NKJ

  21. What should we expect? “And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.” Jn 4:36-38 NKJ

  22. Winning souls for Christ is spiritual warfare “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Cor 4:4 NIV

  23. Winning souls for Christ is spiritual warfare “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Cor 10:3-5 NIV

  24. Winning souls for Christ is spiritual warfare Strongholds are fortified places Satan builds to exalt himself against the knowledge and plans of God. • Ideological stronghold • Personal stronghold
