  2. Toulmin Model • Begin with a CLAIM/THESIS “Everything is an Argument” What are you trying to say?! • Within the claim/thesis there are mini claims – SUB CLAIMS- that you will also need to prove.

In “Creating an American”, Richard Rodriguez shifts from expectant to biting using vivid imagery, cultured details , and cold diction proving the inevitability that American Immigrants face when they assimilate into the “shallow foppery” of harsh American culture. • Sub claims are good to recognize in your overall claim because it ensures that you will not forget to “prove” anything.
