  1. February 18, 2014 Extended Metaphor Homework: Bring random object with you for Wednesday's class. Objective: I can identify an author's use of extended metaphor and analyze its impact on the poem's meaning. Warm Up (in your composition book) Take out one clean sheet of paper. Put your name and date in the top right hand corner. On the top line title it POETRY ELEMENTS QUIZ Skip the next line and then number 1-20 (do not skip lines)

  2. What is a metaphor? a direct comparison of two unlike things that does NOT use "like" or "as" What do you think an extended metaphor is?

  3. Sometimes authors will use a metaphor throughout an entire poem, not just in one line. This is called an extended metaphor.

  4. Before we take a look at some poems with extended metaphors, draw four TPCASTTs in your notes. In the first one, tell what each letter stands for. In the other three, write the following poem titles and make your predictions about each. The Hound Mother to Son The Road Not Taken
