  6. Characteristics of Long-Term Goals • Long Term Goals • Broad statements giving overall direction to one’s life • Usually require one year or more to accomplish • Made up of a series of short-term goals

Guidelines for Goal Setting • Imaginable-clear, thinkable, understandable to the goal-setter • Believable-possible to achieve • Achievable-possible to attain,should not be set in concrete • Controllable-manageable, particularly if other people are involved • Measurable-stated in measurements of time and/or quantity • Desirable-want to do it • Growth Facilitating-never destructive to you, others, society
