Teaching Philosophy • Students need to be given choice and a voice in the classroom. The teacher is a facilitator- the classroom should revolve around student needs and learning. • Producing students who can think critically and make decisions for themselves. • Producing students who take responsibility for their own actions and choices.
About Me • Currently finishing BA in Secondary Education: English Comprehensive from UNLV. • Plan to go back for my Masters after I start teaching. • Graduated from the TEACH Academy here at Clark.
Semester Goals • Explore different cultures by exploring various texts from around the world. • Improve reading and writing skills through essays, poetry, reading (in and out of class), projects, etc. • Inspire students to continue their education and become life long learners. • Help students become their own advocates and take responsibility for their own actions and choices.
Semester Plans • Started year with Allegory of the Cave and Oedipus • Transitioning into creation stories from different cultures and allusions • From there we will be reading The Kite Runner by Kahled Hosseini and then Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah • Students will also be selecting a novel to read outside of class every month.
