Social Issues •Almost half the world — over 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day •The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the world’s 7 richest people combined. •Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names. •Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen. •1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).

  3. Cinematography • Being able to actually hear real life stories from people living in these situations everyday really brought out the aspect of poverty as being a huge problem. If random people were telling how bad poverty is but yet they had giant houses to live in everyday, the main point might have been missed.

  4. Bias • I think he was very bias with his view, but in saying that I do not think his view is wrong. He displayed poverty as one of the top, if not the number one, problems in world. This issue must be fixed and the way he presented poverty said exactly that.

  5. Questions • Why I'm a senior in high school, and i am just now learning about this huge issue? • Why, in a world of so much wealth, do we still have so much poverty, where billions of people live on less than one dollar a day? • What is the government not doing that could help fix everything?

  6. Something to think about • Over 22,000 children die every day around the world. • That is equivalent to: -1 child dying every 4 seconds -15 children dying every minute -A 2010 Haiti earthquake occurring almost every 10days -A 2004 Asian Tsunami occurring almost every 10 days -An Iraq-scale death toll every 18–43 days -Just under 8.1 million children dying every year -Some 88 million children dying between 2000 and 2009

  7. What you can do. • Relieve countries of their debt owed. • Donate. • Spread the word about this killing problem. • Demand action by your government.

  9. ME • The video has made me think about people in the world all around me. I used to think anything I did only affected the people I am in physical contact with everyday so I would only care for that, but I’ve realized that I can help plenty of other people in the world just by spreading the world about this problem. I don’t have much and can’t do much either but the least I can do is tell people who can make big changes.
