  3. The Grand Vision: Future Growth Scenarios Scenario A - Trend • Limited multi-family • Most rural living • Villages see little growth • Traverse City and Cadillac continue to see new buildings • Most auto-oriented • Most land consumptive www.mlui.org

  4. Scenario B – Rural by Design • Open space and agriculture preservation through rural clustering • Less farm land lost than current trend • Focused on life outside of cities and towns

  5. Scenario C – Village Focused • Village and small town centered growth • Requires investment in sewer systems • Enhances small town feel • Supports agri-tourism • Less parks, more nearby nature • Requires investment in transit and walkability

  6. Scenario D – City Focused • Most new development in Traverse City and Cadillac with some development in villages • Utilizes existing infrastructure • Preserves farmland • Up to 10 story buildings in Traverse City • Includes more urban parks

  9. Current Transit Status • Six counties • Region is rural with villages and 2 cities • Five transit agencies • Primarily dial-a-ride service • Transit agencies are county focused, not coordinated www.mlui.org

  10. The Objective: The current dial-a-ride system does not work for people commuting to work. In order to increase employment opportunities and economic security we must provide transportation choices that get people to work on time, and that are: *Fast *Efficient *Reliable *Easy-to-use www.mlui.org

  11. The Objective: • Interviewed bus commuters. • Confirmed that commuters prefer to ride fixed route busses to work. • Run on a schedule • Reliable • Can plan ahead • Don’t have to call in www.mlui.org

  12. The Objective: • Interviewed both transit riders and non-riders • Non-Bata riders claim the main issue encouraging more BATA use is "more information" (47%) • BATA users chose "more frequent routes" as their #1 response (58%) • The “Brussel Sprouts” effect. www.mlui.org

Grand Vision Transit Committee • Regional coordination: • Expand service • More fixed routes • Weekend and night service • Marketing and promotion • Google transit • Websites (all agencies need to have a website) • Signage and bus stops • Consistent fares across counties • Consolidate support services www.mlui.org
