  2. About Me • Born in Lindsay, California • Always lived here • 4 brothers & 3 sisters • One of the oldest, I set the example • Interests include helping my mom, soccer and my friends

  3. Top 3 Job Choices • Top 3 jobs: • Secretary • Dental Assistant • Pharmacist • I enjoy jobs that required doing many things at once and lots of interaction with people • I work fast and can handle a lot of directions at once, am very friendly and like helping out

  4. Focus Job: Pharmacist • Ultimately, I would like to be a pharmacist • I like the idea of knowing how to make medicines for people that can help them be healthier and live longer • My mother has health problems and I would like to know how to help her • This job would require a lot of focus and I can handle the pressure and the details

  5. Focus Job Requirements • Have to earn a PharmD- doctorate of pharmacy degree • Pass the PCAT- Pharmacy college admission test • Complete practice work at clinics and labs

  6. Focus Job Opportunities & Obstacles • Starting salary is often around $90,000 • High demand for pharmacists, a lot like nursing • Not a lot of room for promotion • I would need a lot of college to get this job • I already know a lot about medicines because of my mom • I would have to work on being a very serious college student

  7. Job Shadow • Shadowed Dr. Smith at CVS Pharmacy • Has been a pharmacist for 8 years • Learned that the job has a lot of demand, can be tiring being on your feet, and sometimes customers don’t understand the medicine directions • Enjoyed working with the customers as they picked up their medicines

  8. My Short Term Goals • Graduate from Lindsay High School with a 2.5 GPA • Participate in the graduation ceremony • Enroll in Porterville Community College for Fall of 2012

  9. Achieving Short Term Goals • Finish my senior semester strong by turning in all my work and not missing school • See my counselor about how to apply to college • Obstacles might be time and getting tired towards the end of the semester • Solutions could be to plan ahead and not procrastinate in my work or meeting with my counselor

  10. Long Term Goals • Get a full time job over the summer to pay for college • Help my younger sisters and brothers get better grades • Finish my two year degree and go on to more college to become a pharmacist

  11. Achieving Long Term Goals • Start filling out applications for jobs • Spend time with my brothers and sisters at home to get their homework done • Be serious about college • Obstacles include lack of jobs in the community, time for my siblings and money for college • Solutions include financial aid, less time with friends and looking for jobs outside of Lindsay

  12. Lindsay High Reflection • At LHS, I learned the value of working hard and trying things even though they are new and hard • Had a lot of help from the Migrant Program • Learned that studying is not my best skill, but if I work at it, I can succeed

  13. Lindsay High Reflection • LHS has taught me that math is part of everything, especially being a pharmacist • When I leave, I will use the successes and mistakes to guide my younger brothers and sisters and my goals in college

  14. “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”-Colin Powell • Thank you for your time! • Any Questions?
