  4. The science bit… • Funded by Lancashire County Council • 4 providers of Help Direct in Lancashire • Managed by Age Concern Central Lancashire • Cover Preston and South Ribble districts • Est 2008

  5. Help Direct – Our Mission • Information, guidance and support to ALL adults over 18 in Lancashire! • Be the first port of call for practical support, information and signposting • Offer preventative support

  6. I need HELP!! I just don’t know where to turn? I want to socialise more! I am struggling with bills! My garden is in a mess How can I use the internet? I want to be healthier! I am struggling getting about My mum needs help at home! Who is my local police officer? Where can I volunteer locally?

  15. 3. What services do Help Direct provide?

  16. Community Advisors • Support and assist all clients to resolve their problems • Investigate solutions • Monitor and follow up • Work with referring agencies e.g. Social Workers, Police, LFRS etc • Aim to achieve a positive outcome

  17. Wellbeing Measure Tool • Identify areas may wish / need to improve • Highlight priority areas • Give a record of scores & actions • Method of measuring the increase in someone’s wellbeing, empowering and encouraging the individual further

  18. Safe Trader Scheme • From handy person to Home Improvement Agency • Trading Standards approved • Basic criminal record check • Feedback Facility • E.g. Plumbers, Electricians www.safetrader.org.uk

  21. Time Banks Time banks allow people to do things for each other and instead of money they earn Time Credits 1hr of time = 1 time credit Time banks can be set up in communities, neighbourhoods and organisations

  22. Skills Exchange • Bring people together in a spirit of equality • Build an individual’s confidence and skills • Build community networks and knowledge • Get things done that wouldn’t get done
