The 2003 update of the American Heart Association's Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics released Tuesday shows that 15.3% of 6 to 11-year-olds and 15.5% of 12 to 19-year-olds weigh too much. Between 1990 and 2000, the percentage of obese Americans almost doubled, rising from 11.6 to 20.1%.
