Statewide Assessments • Beginning in 2014-15, the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) will include: • English Language Arts (ELA) in grades 3-11 • Mathematics in grades 3-8 • Algebra I End-of Course (EOC) • Algebra II EOC • Geometry EOC • These assessments replace the current FCAT 2.0 Reading (grades 3-10) and mathematics assessments (grades 3-8), as well as the current state EOCs in Algebra I and Geometry • The existing FCAT 2.0 Science assessments in grades 5 and 8, and the existing state EOCs in Biology I, U.S. History and Civics will continue to be administered

  8. 9th Grade Cohorts 2011-2012 and 2012-2013  • Must pass • Grade 10 reading (or ACT/SAT concordant score) • Algebra I EOC if Algebra I is taken after 2010-2011 or a comparative Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) • Must participate • Biology I (if enrolled after 2010-2011) • Geometry (if enrolled after 2010-2011) • U.S. History (if enrolled after 2011-2012) Students enrolled in accelerated courses leading to college credit are not required to participate in the EOC assessments (AP, IB, AICE, dual enrollment). Other provisions apply in order to qualify for a scholar diploma designation.

Algebra II EOC Assessment  • Beginning in 2014-2015, a student must participate in the EOC assessment if enrolled in • 1200330 Algebra II • 1200340 Algebra II Honors • 1209825 Pre-AICE Mathematics 3 IGCSE Level • 1200395 IB Middle Years Program Algebra II • Beginning with the 2013-2014 9th grade cohort • EOC assessment results must constitute 30% of the students’ course average. • School district policy can require the results of the Algebra II EOC constitute 30% of students’ course average for students who entered 9th grade prior to 2013-2014. 10

P.E.R.T. • 2014-2015 11th grade students will be tested if • Grade 10 FCAT 2.0 Reading – Level 2 or 3 • Algebra I EOC Assessment – Level 2,3, or 4 (as 10th graders) • Students may demonstrate readiness by meeting cut scores on Accuplacer, ACT or SAT. ACCEL 18-Credit (Academically Challenging Curriculum to Enhance Learning)  What is the distinction between the 18-credit ACCEL option and the 24-credit option? • Three elective credits instead of eight • Physical education is not required • Online course is not required All other graduation requirements for a 24-credit standard diploma must be met based on grade 9 cohort year (per s. 1003.4282, F.S.). 12

(2) An identified rigorous Computer Science course with a related industry certification substitutes for up to one science credit (except for Biology I).

Online Course Requirement • Beginning with the 2011-2012 9th grade cohort (current 12th), all students must complete one course via online learning • Does not apply to a • A student who has an individual educational plan (IEP) which indicates that an online course would be inappropriate • An out-of-state transfer student who is enrolled in a Florida high school and has 1 academic year or less remaining in high school. • Online drivers education course may satisfy this requirement for ALL 9th grade cohorts

Economics with Financial Literacy  • 2013-2014 9th grade cohort and forward are required to have financial literacy instruction • 2102335 Economics with Financial Literacy • 2102345 Economics with Financial Literacy Honors • 2102800 Florida’s Pre-International Baccalaureate (IB) Comparative Economics with Financial Literacy • 9th grade cohorts who enter prior to the 2013-1014 school year are required to earn .5 credit in economics • May take above courses or • 2102310 Economics • 2102320 Economics Honors • Accelerated economics courses (Advanced Placement, IB, Advanced International Certificate of Education or dual enrollment) may also meet the graduation requirement, provided that the district ensures that the appropriate financial literacy content is included 16

  17. 2014-2015 Dual Enrollment Course—High School Subject Area Equivalency List  • BSC x010 “General Biology I” + BSC x011 “General Biology II” • Satisfies the Biology I graduation requirement • Prepares student for Biology I EOC Assessment • BSC courses and all other postsecondary science courses may apply to the two “equally rigorous” science courses requirement • AMH x010 “United States History I” + AMH x011 “United States History II” • Prepares student for US History EOC Assessment • Any two AMH courses or other postsecondary courses determined by a district may be used to satisfy the US History credit requirement for a standard diploma 17

Students with Disabilities • 2014-2015 9th grade cohort and beyond • May not earn a special diploma • Opportunity to earn a standard diploma • Individualized programs that can includecourse substitutions, assessments, industry certifications, occupational completion points (OCPs), and employment • Parents participate in decision regarding appropriate assessment and diploma requirements and diploma designation • Rule development 2014-2015 • Section 1003.4282(11), F.S.

Certificate of Completion  • A school district may award a certificate of completion to a student when the student earns the required 24 credits or the required 18 credits under the ACCEL option (s. 1002.3105[5], F.S) but fails to • pass the assessments required under 1008.22(3), F.S., and/or • achieve a 2.0 GPA. • A student who is otherwise entitled to a certificate of completion may elect to remain in high school either as a full-time or part-time student for up to one additional year and receive special instruction designed to remedy his or her identified deficiencies. 20

Scholar Diploma Designation9th Grade Cohorts 2014-2015 and Forward  In addition to meeting the 24-credit standard high school diploma requirements, a student must • Pass the ELA Grade 11 statewide assessment; • Earn 1 credit in Algebra II; • Must pass Algebra II EOC; • Pass the Geometry EOC; • Earn 1 credit in Statistics or an equally rigorous mathematics course; • Pass the Biology I EOC; • Earn 1 credit in Chemistry or Physics; • Earn 1 credit in a course equally rigorous to Chemistry or Physics; • Pass the U.S. History EOC; • Earn 2 credits in the same World Language; and • Earn at least 1 credit in AP, IB, AICE or a dual enrollment course. 22

Scholar Diploma Designation Exemptions  A student is exempt from the Biology I or U.S. History assessment if the student is enrolled in an AP, IB or AICE Biology I or U.S. History course and the student • Takes the respective AP, IB or AICE assessment and • Earns the minimum score to earn college credit. 23

  25. Scholar Diploma Designation  Which courses satisfy the “one credit in a course equally rigorous to chemistry or physics” for a scholar diploma designation? To meet the requirement, the credit must be attained by successfully completing a science course with an “EQ” (equally rigorous) subject code. Which courses are considered equally rigorous to Statistics for a scholar diploma designation? A Level 3 course or a college credit-bearing mathematics course meet the requirement. 26

Merit Diploma Designation  • In addition to meeting the 24 credit standard high school diploma requirements based on grade 9 cohort year, in order to earn a merit diploma designation a student must attain one or more industry certifications from the list established under s. 1003.492, F.S. 27

Middle Grades Statewide, Standardized Assessment – High School-Level Courses  • Middle grades students enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, or Biology I must take the statewide, standardized EOC assessment and shall not take the corresponding subject and grade-level statewide, standardized assessment • Students who are taking the new ELA and mathematics assessments shall not take the discontinued assessments 34

State University System (SUS) Standard Admission Requirements • Coursework • 4 English • 4 Math (Algebra 1 or higher) • 3 Social Science • 3 Natural Science (2 with lab experience) • 2 same World Language • 2 Electives • Core Listed in Florida Counseling for Future Education Handbook • Test Minimums • Critical Reading • SAT 460 or • ACT 19 • Mathematics • ACT 19 or • SAT 460 • English with Writing • Combined ACT Plus Writing 18 or • SAT 440 • Minimum HS GPA 2.5 Universities may establish higher admission standards than those listed above

SUS Foreign Language Requirement Students are still expected to complete a foreign (i.e., world) language at the 2nd level. • 2 credits in same language (such as Spanish 1 & 2) • 1 high school world language credit at 2nd level (such as only French 2) • Passing AP, AICE or IB foreign language course (because intermediate level) • Completing a second postsecondary course (a world language Elementary 2), as long as the course is 4.0 semester credits • Passing a third postsecondary course (a world language Intermediate 1), regardless of credits STUDENTS NOT COMPLETING THIS REQUIREMENT WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL MUST MAKE UP THE CREDITS AT A POSTSECONDARY INSTITUTION PRIOR TO GRADUATION FROM A UNIVERSITY. WORLD LANGUAGE TO THE 2ND LEVEL IS ALSO REQUIRED FOR FLORIDA COLLEGE SYSTEM ASSOCIATE IN ARTS GRADUATES.

CS/CS/HB 851 OUT-OF-STATE FEE WAIVER Conditions: • Attended secondary school in Florida for three consecutive years immediately before graduating from high school in the state; • Apply for enrollment in institution of higher education within 24 months after high school graduation; and • Submit official H.S. transcript as evidence of attendance and graduation. Students still: • Have to submit residency for tuition purposes documentation • If found to be a non-resident, should apply for the out-of-state waiver (and provide transcript evidence along with completed form) Students will not be eligible for state financial aid. It is anticipated that they must remain continuously enrolled in order to continue using the waiver. 38

SUS and Industry Certifications • At this time, industry certifications approved for meeting mathematics and science high school diploma requirements are NOT accepted as one of the 4 math or 3 natural science credits required for SUS admission. • Students may include information about any industry certification in their application; however, it will not be counted as one of the 18 credits for admission purposes. 39

Gold Seal Vocational Scholars(GSV) Early, 7th Semester evaluations - based on coursework in progress and GSV requirements: • 3 Vocational Courses in one Vocational Program • GPAs (3.0 for HS diploma coursework/3.5 in Vocational studies) • Test Scores • Service Hours Final, 8th Semester evaluations – based on GSV requirements and • Receipt of a Standard Diploma type as a proxy that student met the correct course requirements for HS graduation and • Reported HS graduation date
