  1. How can I participate in planning improvements to the transportation system in Genesee County? You can help to plan improvements to the transportation system in Genesee County by participating in the development of the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). This plan will be the guide for development of the transportation network out to the year 2035. To keep informed on plan development, please visit our website at www.gcmpc.org and click on the 2035 LRTP button. Our kick-off meeting was held on June 5, 2008 at the Harris Auditorium, in the Genesee County Administration Building. Our first of three public participation events was held at the MTA’s downtown bus station on July 8th. This was followed by two events at local malls—one at Genesee Valley Center on July 16th and the next at Courtland Center Mall on July 17th. Staff at these events answered the public’s questions regarding transportation in Genesee County, and made a transportation survey available. Interested citizens also mailed in and e-mailed their surveys to our office. We received almost 1,300 surveys by the deadline. You can still take the survey on our website and have your opinion counted. Just click on the green “2035 LRTP” button on our main page and that will bring you to the survey link. December 2008 – A Call for Projects will be released to the cities, villages, the Genesee County Road Commission, the MTA, and other transportation agencies to request that they submit projects to be included in the LRTP. This is a good time to contact local units of government with suggestions on any transportation improvements. February 2009 – A list of projects to be included in the LRTP will be made available for public review and comment. Residents near the proposed projects will be sent a direct mailing with information on the projects. There will be a series of meetings held at different locations around the county to answer questions and gather input on the projects. April 2009-June 2009 – A draft of the 2035 LRTP will be available for public review and comment.
