  2. Welcome Parents! • The purpose of tonight‘s meeting is to discuss the HORIZONS Curriculum. • If you have any questions during my presentation, please let me know.

  3. Curriculum Goals • To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. • To help students discover new interests. • To give all students the academic and social skills they need to progress in the future.

  5. Make-up Policy: • Excused from daily work during missed class. • Mastery of objectives required. • Test and long range assignments must be made • up in a reasonable time period.

  6. Class Rules: • Be respectful. • Be responsible. • Follow directions. • Be punctual. • Be organized. • Be a self-starter. • Be prepared.

  7. Curriculum: • Resource Model • The subject matter is enriched • Units correlate with GPS(Georgia Performance Standards)

  8. Units of Study: • Science • (Ornithology, Solving Mysteries) • Logic Puzzles • Vocabulary {Vocabulary Cartoons} • (Wordwatchers) • Brain Stations • (HORIZONS Standards)

  9. Evaluations: • 12 week grading period. • 1-4 Rating Scale for all grade level • HORIZONS students in grades 1st -5th receive the same • progress report; therefore, it is unlikely that every student • will be completely proficient in every area. They are in the • process of learning these skills. Most regular classroom • standards are tied to specific facts or easily measurable skills. • That’s not the case in Horizons where our goals during the • primary years are to help the children become • independent thinkers and collaborative workers.
