The WITBN was established in 2008, and is the first global alliance which aims to unifies Indigenous networks around the world to retain and grow the Indigenous languages and cultures around the globe. The organization aims to promote the Indigenous languages and cultures through media networking, program sharing, news and broadcasting from around the world. WITBN’s mission is to develop collaborative relationships among Indigenous television broadcasters to create various media opportunities for it’s members and help nurture Indigenous media worldwide.

  3. Various Indigenous networks around the globe • Taiwan • New Zealand • Norway • Canada • USA • Africa As I have researched what WITBN was about I discovered networks all over the world. Here are some networks to name a few just to give you and idea how wide spread WITBN is growing.

Taiwan’s Indigenous network • Located in Asia, south east of China • “Hakka” means guest people • Descendants of main land China • 4.6 million Hakka in Taiwan • Traditions and language passed down • Known as hard working and intelligent • They place important value in family and relationships • They welcome guest and hospitable

New Zealand’s Indigenous Network Located south east of Australia, Maori Television envisions : • Wide range of international programmes for audiences across the country and online • Maori language is a treasure at the heart of the Maori culture • Vision for the Maori language to be spoken, valued and embraced by all Launched in 2008, Maori TV has 2 objectives Contribute to revitalize Maori language To be independent service that is relevant effective and widely accessible Strategic direction • Valuesof the station • High standards • Truthful, honest, integrity • Respectful and empathetic • Maintain uphold core Maori values • Build connection to Maori culture • Deliver locally made programs • Good quality of in-house, sport, intelligent • and entertaining int. programmes, cover • significant events to all New Zealanders

Persian TV • Recognized as important and reliable • Uncensored • News • Current affairs • Cultural • Entertainment • Education Not associated with media from Iran • NITV believes in: • Equality between men and women • Separation between religion and gov’t • Human Rights • Freedom of speech and media • Democracy The station sheds light on the democratic movement taking place in Iran and around the world
