  2. Background • April 2009 report by external consultancy on IT within the University • May 2009 approval of report by SLT and Council and agreement to proceed with recommendations • July 2009 start of IT Transformation Programme • 5 stage programme covering 24 months and an investment of £9.7M

IT Transformation Programme • Stages 1 – 3 Preparation • Full analysis of IT department • Detailed requirements to meet University’s current and future needs • Selection of preferred partner – Unisys • Upgrade to Clifford Whitworth Data Centre • Completed new data centre in Allerton building • Solution designed and accepted All completed, approved and signed off.

  4. IT Transformation Programme • Stage 4 - Build and Commission of Hardware • New hardware ordered, delivered and installed in CW and Allerton data centres • Resilient network built connecting the two data centres • Storage and compute hardware are in the process of being configured and tested • Training of operations staff started and on-going for a number of months with the support of Unisys Handover for use March

IT Transformation Programme • Stage 5 – Migration • Business Applications • Over 70 identified e.g. Banner, Agresso etc • Business Objects • Includes mailboxes, desktops, filestore etc • Infrastructure Objects • Firewalls, Remote Access etc Plan starts 14 March, ends August 2011 (These are provisional dates)

  6. Application Migration • Complex Apps • Agresso CRM • Agresso Finance • Banner Core • Blackboard • Library • SAP • SquizMatrix • Accman • Equitrac • Simple Apps • Everything else

Migration Timeline • Each application has a 6 week detailed migration timeline • 4 weeks pre, 1 week migration, 1 week post • Each week the responsibilities and tasks for ITS and Unisys have been detailed • Business responsibilities : • Week (-4) agree actual downtime date, and for the Complex Apps only agree business staff to carry out UAT • Week (0) business staff available for UAT • Week (1) “live” running

  8. Migration Impact • 6 week migration window • Application freeze period. No changes to applications • Complex applications Banner and Agresso 8 weeks • Migration week • Application unavailable for use • Complex Apps – 2 days • Simple Apps – 1 day • Post Migration Week • Application performance measure
