  1. Rules, Regulation, Guidelines FICT-PK (May 2010) Pre-registration, and Industrial Training (Special Briefing)

  2. Pre-Registration for May 2010 Trimester

  3. Pre-Registration Timeline Period for viewing and planning the time table 21st April (Wed) - 26th April (Mon) Period for Online Pre-Registration 26th April (Mon) - 30th April (Fri)

  4. Period for Viewing and Planning Your Timetable Between 21st to 26th of April, you should Get the “complete” time table from FICT website (www.utar.edu.my/fict-pk). Get the “complete” time table from notice board (block A, 1st floor). Plan your time table for May 2010 trimester based on the complete time table. Meet your academic advisor for unit/subject selection and “clear your pre-registration on hold flag”. Don’t do this: Viewing the “complete’ time table from the pre-registration screen, because there will be nothing there during this period.

  5. Again, between 21st to 26th of April • Time tables of subjects/classes will be announced through • FICT website and • Notice Board. • But NOT UTAR pre-registration system. • Because the information given in the UTAR system may not be complete yet until students' pre-registration time.

  6. Go to the Correct Place for timetable Go to here & Notice board Don’t

  7. Period for Pre-Registration of Units In 26th to 30th April, you should prepare to pre-register your class: Every program will pre-register their units on different time slots CS: 26th (Mon) 11am till 27th (Tue) 8am CT, IA: 27th (Tue)11am till 28th (Wed) 8am CN, IB: 28th (Wed) 11am till 29 (Thu) 8am. All FICT-PK programs: for the remaining seats 29th (Thu) 11am till 30th (Fri) 5pm. Other faculties will carry out the pre-registration differently, please don’t refer to them. Students will not be granted access right for pre-registration in other time.

  8. Pre-Registration for Fixed Students • For fixed-structure students, we will help them do pre-pre-registration for all the subjects in their structure. • But during pre-registration, they will still have to get online to either re-confirm the subjects/classes or add-drop subjects/classes.

  9. Special Note on Pre-registration - 1 • During these time slots, you will see your “eligible” units, time slots and group on the pre-registration screen, especially core units that are relevant to your degree. (e.g. some units are core to IA but electives to CN) • The faculty only opens limited seats to ensure every student will have their seats (especially for core units), and prevent student from “simply” register to their advantage. (e.g. no class on Friday). • You will only see the remaining “seats” on 29th to 30th of April. Do check the registration screen again on these dates especially for the elective units. • Please use add/drop forms after the pre-registration, but the faculty DON’T guarantee that you will get the units.

  10. Special Note on Pre-registration - 2 • The students can only see the classes that still have available seats for them. • Seats will be reserved for each programme, so the earlier pre-registration will not take any advantage over the later.

  11. Special Note on Add/Drop • For flexi-structure students, if any students cannot pre-register any compulsory subjects in their guided structure, they can fill up the add-drop form and the Faculty will try to assign classes to them manually, subject to the availability. • For all students, if they want to choose some elective subjects or some subjects not in their structure, but the classes are full already, they can still fill up the add-drop form and submit to the Faculty. However, it is not guaranteed that classes/seats can be arranged for them.

  12. Conclusion on Pre-Registration • You need to check two time slots: • The time slot that has been assigned to your program. (e.g. CT is on 27th (Tue)11am till 28th (Wed) 8am). • This is to “grab” for your core units. • The 29th (Thu) 11am till 30th (Fri) 5pm. • The is to “hunt” for the “leftovers”, especially seats of other electives (which are core units belongs to other programs) OR seats of group with “better time” that you want to swap.

  13. Students on Probation Students who are not on probation Maximum 21 credits (7 units) Minimum 1 unit (either 1, 2, or 3 credits) Students who are on probation Maximum 15 credits (5 units) Minimum 1 unit (either 1, 2, or 3 credits) If students do not take any subject, they can apply for "leave of absense". For the entire period of their study, they can apply for "leave of absence" many times, but limited to a cumulative period of 1 year.

  15. Industrial Training

  16. Industrial Training for May 2010 There are three groups of students to be addressed: For those who want to stay back and take classes. For those who plan to go for industrial training and has been given a job offer. For those who plan to go for industrial training and are still looking for job offer.

  17. Industrial Training for May 2010 For those who wants to stay back in UTAR and take class Please submit your name to Faculty Office before the pre-registration, and before April 23rd (Fri). Otherwise, we will drop all your units after your pre-registration. We will do a scanning on IA & IB students who has already accumulated 60 credits and more (including this semester), if you have pre-registered class without submitting your name, we WILL drop all your classes and will ask you to look for industrial placement.

  18. Industrial Training for May 2010 For those who plan to go for industrial training and have been given a job offer. You will be required to submit an add/drop form (to register for industrial training) to the Faculty Office. We will make sure you have accumulated 60 credits or more. Otherwise, you are not eligible to go. If you have failed certain subjects (and can’t add up to 60 credits and more), or under probation or even terminated, you are not eligible to go to industrial training. If a student cannot meet the requirement of 60 credits after this semester, and is not eligible for industrial training, then the Faculty will help the student register classes later.

  19. Industrial Training for May 2010 For those who plan to go for industrial training and are still looking for job or haven’t been given a job offer. You have to make a decision now whether to submit your name to faculty office in order to stay for class. You are not allowed to “sit on the fence”. Either you go to industrial training or stay for class. For those who still want to go for industrial training, you will get help from the faculty or being assigned (after April 30th). So, DON’T pre-register any unit. DON’T drop all your class after you have got a job offer, you then stay for class.

  20. Conclusion on Industrial Training • For those (IA, IB) who have accumulated 60 credits (transferred + pass semester + this semester), You HAVE TO make a decision to go for industrial training or to pre-register for class before April 23rd. • You have to submit your name to the faculty office to indicate that you need to stay for class before April 23rd. • If you haven’t done this, we WILL DROP your class after pre-registration and FORCE you to go industrial training. (We have told you, so DON’T complain).

  21. Industrial Training for Oct 2010 • You have to make a decision also to stay for class or to go for industrial training in the second week of May semester. • You have to submit your name to stay for class in the second week. The faculty need to know the number. • For those who want to go during Oct 2010 (Oct 1st till Dec 31st), you have to start looking for industrial placement during the breaks. • Another briefing will be given in week 14.

  22. Delaying your Industrial Training You are allowed to delay your industrial training (any semester after 60 credit until the last semester), but the faculty WILL NOT guarantee that you will be able to register your desired units. For this coming May semester, we have given our promise, but this can only be done on the semester by semester basis. For IA and IB, we will discourage you to go out during the short semester unless it is your last semester. So far, UTAR does not allow Project 2 unit to be offered during the short semester. Plan your academic career WISELY & CAREFULLY.

  23. Unit Survey Please remember to do your unit survey for all your subjects. This is a special request and reminder from the president.

  24. Appendix

  25. Some Definition "Pre-registration" is the procedure whereby students are required to get online to the UTAR system to select the subjects and classes that they want to take, subject to the avaibility. After pre-registration, bills will be generated later accordingly. "Registration" is the procedure whereby students pay the bills and officially register for the subjects and classes. Only after the above procedures, students' names will appear in the system and they are then allowed to attend classes.
