  4. Private Companies Can Vary They can be… • Well known – L.L. Bean • Large – Mars • Long established – Ghirardilli (est. 1852) • Family owned – Pinks Hot Dogs, Inc.

  5. Private Companies Are Similar • Example - L.L. Bean • Privately owned • Doesn’t sell stock to public • Doesn’t file with SEC • Difficult to research

  6. SICs & NAICS • Numeric codes • Classify company by industry • Example - Hershey • SIC 2066 • NAICS 311320 SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) code NAICS (North American Industrial Classification System)
