  1. Battle of Gettysburg • Date- July 1st- 3rd 1863 • Key players- (union) George G. Meade, John F. Reynolds (confederate) Robert E. Lee • Effect- The South never attacked in a northern city again. The battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the civil war. • Summary- The 1st day Lee engaged the union army and intended to destroy it. The 2nd day of battle he flanked the army and pushed them to cemetery hill. On the 3rd day the confederates tried to charge them and lee had lost so many people that he retreated to Virginia.
