  1. Pharma ECF Highlights Organized in conjunction with the DETC conference in Philadelphia “Joint” effort with ASME and ISPE ECF Industry Advisory Board 5 pharmaceutical industry experts presented $600 sponsorship raised to cover the lunch 20 people attended including the speakers

  2. Pharma ECF Highlights • Overall: the content of the program was great but the turnout was very low • Terrific concept, truly innovative for ASME, and exactly meets the BSC objectives set forth by the society • Delivered what the ASME customers told us they wanted “If you build it, they will come” • However, the customers did not come  • Strategy was to organize a really terrific program in a bubbling industry

  3. Lessons Learned • Don’t partake in a joint effort with another organization unless they are fully on board about the program • New ECF Model: • Weekday vs. weekend • Professional development & non-technical programming vs. industry focused technical programming • Target young engineers vs. students • Charged $100 registration vs. $25 • Difficult to find pro-active young professional engineers who will first take the time to read about the program, actually request a day off to attend to their boss, and then register and attend.  • Guest speakers were very high ranking industry owners and executives. They did not promote this event to their employees • Market the ECF to count for professional development points

  4. Lessons Learned • Timing is a big factor.  Early September, right after Labor Day, is just not a good time, especially for targeting students.  • Don’t schedule anything before October.  People are scattered, on vacation, and generally not in tune during the summer months.  • For the future: Plan 6 months in advance to allow ample time for marketing to take place • Partner with a a large corporation who will guarantee large attendance by their younger engineers.  Companies often conduct training and require their employees to attend.  • ASME should follow that model and convince the corporation that we can provide worthwhile, educational programming.
