  4. Who can apply? • Open to all English students’ unions whose institutions are in receipt of HEFCE funding, including FEIs • All projects should be led by students’ unions in partnership with their institutions, rather than vice-versa • Non-NUS affiliate students’ unions are welcome to apply and will receive equal treatment to affiliates.

Objectives Initiate a step change in student engagement in sustainability issues Enable students to become meaningful agents for change on sustainability issues in higher education Ensure sustainability remains an institutional priority within the sector Put English higher education on the map for its sustainability efforts

  8. What are we looking for? • Open call to encourage innovation – think big! • Also keen to scale up and roll out successful initiatives • Check out the Ideas Bank at www.nus.org.uk/sgf

  9. Different types of application • Project-specific bids = an application based on one idea or project • Patchwork bids = lots of small initiatives • Collaborative, city-wide or regional bids = sharing staff resource / projects across students’ unions, especially engaging FE students’ unions and students

  10. What can the Fund be spent on? • We expect most funding will be spent on engagement activities rather than large infrastructural and capital costs • However, we will consider projects that require large capital expenditure on the merit of the project idea • £300,000 maximum per bid (even collaborative bids) • Multiple bids can be entered per SU

  11. Next Steps… • Meet with your SU / Sustainability Team • Send your initial idea to sgf@nus.org.uk • Submit your Expression of Interest information • Potential London-wide collaborations
