  1. What is AP Statistics? • AP Statistics is a college-level introductory course in statistics. You learn to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data. You can earn college credit for this course. Why Should I Study Statistics? • Statistics is the most widely applicable branch of mathematics. • Statistics are important in every branch of science, including social sciences (like psychology, sociology, anthropology), in business and economics, in political science and government, in law, and in medicine. • YOU will use statistics in college and in your career. How Hard is AP Statistics? • It’s a college-level course, so the expectations are high. Homework requires reading and note-taking, in addition to studying formulas and procedures. • AP Statistics is a course in reading, analyzing, critical thinking, and clear communication of mathematical concepts.

  2. Who is Eligible to take AP Statistics? • Anyone who has shown a mastery of Algebra 2 is eligible to take AP Statistics. • Your commitment to do college-level work for the entire school year is as important as your math background.  Would AP Statistics Be My Only Math Course Next Year? • Most people take Statistics as an elective, in addition to their regular math course. • You may take AP Statistics and Calculus (or Precalculus) during the same year, or just take AP Statistics. What Background and Skills are Recommended? • A-or B-level Precalculus students typically perform well in AP Statistics. • Students must read well and be interested in solving word problems.

  3. Will I Take Statistics in College? • Statistics is required for many majors, and strongly recommended for others. Many colleges now give students a choice of Statistics or Calculus to fulfill their math requirements. Why Should I Take AP Statistics in High School? • In high school, Statistics is a full-year course so there are more opportunities to ask questions and understand the concepts. • In college, the class meets less often, for only one semester. • You will enter college prepared to apply your skills in a first semester mathematics course. • Former students have returned after a couple of years in college to say, “AP Statistics was the most important and useful courseI took in high school.”
