  3. 9. MATCHING OF OPPONENTS • What should be taken into account when matching opponents? -Variations in size and strength • Motor skills • Children need to be matched to develop skills and have fun rather than receive an injury, be disappointed and drop out of sport.

  10. MATCHING OF OPPONENTS • Coaches and sports officials need to take into account that children grow and develop at different rates and that uneven competition can place the competitiors at risk of injury especially if one is stronger than the other. • To address this issue some contact sports have allowed players of smaller physiques to play under age.

  11. MATCHING OF OPPONENTS • Grading systems have also been implemented to promote even competition and reduces the risk of injury but allows enjoyment and enthusiasm. • However, in some areas where there are not enough teams and individuals this system cannot be implemented eg: small towns like Coonamble.
