SEXUAL HARASSMENT. Sexual harassment is any unwanted or uninvited sexual behaviors which a reasonable person regards as offensive, humiliating or intimidating. Unwelcome sexual advances or unwelcome requests for sexual favors are sexual harassment. Equal Opportunities Commission.

  4. The conditions • Any unwelcome requests for sexual favors • In a working environment or school setting where there are actions, languages or pictures that are of a sexual nature that makes it hard for one to work or learn. This is called a “sexually hostile working environment.”

  7. Actually… • Many different studies has conducted in different part of the world, • The results varies. • 30 to 70 % of women have experienced some form of sexual harassment at some point in their lives.

  14. One day, Mary goes to the restaurant. 2boys and 1girl talk about the sexual joke loudly but this girl doesn’t mind it.

  15. She is very embarrassing. Is it sexual harassment?

  17. Mary is tutor. She loves his student, John.

  18. Mary phones to john and said that if he loves her, his exam results may be better. If he say no, his GPA will be decrease. John does not love her. He has chance to say no or increase his GPA. Is it sexual Harassment?

  22. EFFECT OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT

  23. EFFECTS OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT ~Victims feel powerless to stop the situation. ~Victims often blame themselves, and fear that others will also blame them, even though it is the harassing person's authority or influence that has been misused.

  24. EFFECTS OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT • ~Victims often have physical symptoms of stress . • ~Victims often suffer lower self-esteem, self-respect and self-confidence. • ~Victims are often confused about what is happening or what could be done about it.

  25. DEALING WITH SEXUAL HARASSMENT • Don't just hope it will stop. Ignoring it doesn’t stop it!! • Allow yourself to get angry. Use the energy of your anger to help you focus and take action. • Tell someone. • Let the harasser know. Be clear and direct in addressing unwanted or offensive behavior

  26. DEALING WITH SEXUAL HARASSMENT • Seek help from police if the condition is severe. • Keep a record. Makes notes of specific behaviors and comments, times and dates, your responses, and any witnesses. • Use University resources.
