Reading Madd Al-Asli • A simple Harakah (Fat-hah, dhamma or kasrah) is not elongated at all – it is read for one “beat” or one “count” only. • Madd-Al-Asli, on the other hand, is elongated two counts, i.e. twice that of a normal Harakah. • The difference between the two is like the difference between saying “ba” and “baa” FAST Tajweed Intensive - Summer 2012
